EMPLOYMENT

2001 – Assoc Director, Lyman Maynard Stowe Library, University of Connecticut Health Center.
Helps direct an innovative academic medical center library with a budget of $2,777,000 and 31.5 employees. Facilitator in problem based learning classes for medical students. Developed and implemented PDA programs for library such instructional classes for faculty and students; helped design a PDA web page; purchased PDA’s for professional library staff. Received faculty status as an Instructor in the School of Medicine in October, 2002.

1981 - 2001 Director, Library Services, Middlesex Hospital
Successfully directed Middlesex Hospital’s library through transformational change within health care and information technology. Worked with architects, fund raisers, and engineers to design and build a new library, which opened in 1995. Helped the hospital staff adapt to new digital technology by teaching numerous classes in database searching, PowerPoint, and PDA’s. Served in leadership roles in state and regional library organizations. One of 15 librarians invited to the National Library of Medicine to discuss PubMed in 1998.

Children’s librarian and assistant branch director at the Central Square Branch library. Promoted to Head of Children’s Services at the main library.

1977 - 1979 Librarian, Arlington Public Library, Arlington, MA
Children’s librarian and assistant branch director at the Fox Branch of the Arlington Public Library. Participated in the Community Health Information Network, CHIN, coordinated by the Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA.

1969 - 1976 Copywriter, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston MA
Advertising copywriter for the special marketing department of the educational division at Houghton Mifflin. Wrote copy for brochures, direct mail, and advertisements for school products such as Caedmon Records and multi-media.

1968 - 1969 Technical Writer, Adage, Inc., Boston, MA
Adage, Inc. was one of the earliest computer companies in Boston. It created a hybrid analog to digital computer and software that was able to simulate the lunar excursion module. I helped write advertising and technical manuals.

1965 - 1968 Administrative Assistant at Bruce Humphries, Publishers in Boston.
Worked with publisher on all aspects of book publishing including author correspondence, editing, copyright applications, book production and marketing.


PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

Connecticut Association of Health Sciences Librarians. Held numerous leadership roles including program chair, treasurer, and president twice -- once in 1984 -1986, and once in 2000- 2001.

North Atlantic Health Sciences Libraries. Chair of the publicity committee 1990 - 1991. Co-chair of the NAHSL conference in 1991 and 2001.

Health Sciences Librarians Conference of the Connecticut Hospital Association. Chair of the conference 1999 - 2000.

Medical Library Association. Member since 1981. Received full certification as a medical librarian in 1984.
