Discussion: Penny reported that NAHSL currently has 237 paid members. Board members asked if we could make the list clearer, to show who is a current, paid member. At the moment the website defaults to the “master list” of all current and past members—perhaps the website could default to the “current paid” list of members?
Action: Penny will check into this.
Discussion: Mary Ann reported that she would announce the slate at the Business Meeting and conduct the vote. She will also announce the NAHSL Achievement Award, given to Debbie Sibley. Mary Ann mentioned to Board members that Debbie was delighted to receive the award and was so sorry not to be able to come to our conference. Action: For informational purposes only.
Discussion: A proclamation has been created to honor ARIHSL this year due to their 50th Anniversary.
Action: Ed will read this proclamation at the Business Meeting, as it would look odd for Mary Ann to do so, since she is an ARIHSL member.
Discussion: No additional report.
Discussion: Happy announced that $1300 in Scholarships were awarded this year.
Action: For informational purposes only.
Discussion: Joan asked that during the Business Meeting Ed remind members that she would be available at the MLA booth (and by email and phone thereafter) to answer any questions related to AHIP and credentialing.
Action: For informational purposes only.
Discussion: Joan asked Ed to mention that we are looking for mentors from our region as part of the MLA mentoring program.
Action: Those interested in mentoring should check the MLA website or contact Joan for more details.
Action: Penny agreed to serve in this capacity.
Discussion: Javier had nothing additional to report at the Board Meeting, and mentioned that any news would be conveyed when Elaine Martin offered the RML update.
ARIHSL Janet mentioned that the ARIHSL Archives had been lost. They are looking for several union lists and other materials. She asked if anyone in the region had anything relevant to ARIHSL that they could donate back to help them.
CAHSL Evelyn reported that there was a CAHSL meeting last Thursday, October 23, with a presentation on breast cancer resources. CAHSL is working with the Connecticut State Medical Society to create an online directory of physicians. The website is www.csms.org. In November, Jeannine Cyr Gluck will speak at the X Jornadas Nacionales de Informacion y Documentacion en Ciencas de la Salud (Spanish National Conference of Health Sciences Libraries), presenting a paper “The Development of the ‘Standards for Hospital Libraries 2002’ in the U.S.” At a recent Connecticut State Medical Society meeting, the keynote speaker on evidence-based medicine strongly promoted librarians as important players in the evidence-based healthcare arena. Jeannine also spoke at this meeting and reinforced this message.
